Wiharso basically works in two modes: One mode of expression is…

Michael Wilkinson “En Attendant”
by EC •
Pearl Lam Gallery,Shanghai April 15 – May 12, 2013 With Michael Wilkinson’s show at the Pearl Lam Gallery in Shanghai, I felt for the first time that the artworks on display positively interacted with the space they were displayed in. In previous shows, I often felt that there was a kind of competition for attention…

Daejeon Pavilion at Shanghai Biennale 2012
by EC •
(Nanjing East Road, Shanghai, September 2012 – March 2013) The Daejeon City Pavilion featured the works of three Korean artists. I found it remarkable how the curator managed to put together three artists with a completely different background an still create a very coherent impression. Choi Taeyoon is a US-Korean artist, who presented his anti-manifesto…

Sydney Pavilion at Shanghai Biennale 2012
by EC •

At first sight, it struck the visitor by the strong ‘op-art’ visual identity created by translucent foils pasted on the windows. The same op-art element was repeated on and in the booklet accompanying the exhibition. The booklet credited a…
