A one night open studio and opening party for a small exhibition on the ground floor of the Changdong Residency of MMCA.
Artworks by Tim Breukers (large Styrofoam mashup sculpture), Tyler Joseph Stefanich (generative video and graphite sound drawing), and Enrique Ramirez (videos of sea and a sport competition) have been exhibited. In the second floor corridor, there was a video projection on a window, visible from the outside, by Maximo Corvalan-Pincheira (interviews with foreign guest workers/immigrants to Korea).
Except for Stefanich (who transported what looked like his working desk to the exhibition space downstairs), the other three artists opened their studio doors as well, providing a peek at their working desks. Kim Eun Jin, one of the Korean artists in residence also opened here studio door, but none of the other Korean artists could be seen anywhere, so the even remained primarily a foreign affair, with the majority of guests being foreigners too. Tim Breukers, an artist from the Netherlands and the main initiator of the event, created an impressive installation, transforming his white studio cube into a memorable experience of light and sound and a great party location.
Overall it was a set of coincidences that brought me here and it was worthwhile to be around, see the work and have the possibility of talking with the artists face to face.
