A group of young artists (Bahc Heeza 박희자, Suh Yoona 서윤아, Son Hyunseon 손현선, Choi Byeong Seok최병석 and curator/captain Jintaeg Jang 장진택) decided to go on a mission into outer space, a metaphor for the journey an artist takes into the ‘unknown’ beyond existing social norms and expectations. An artist as an explorer of the not-yet-known.
Everything was neatly designed, from a training room with surveillance cameras to white working (a.k.a. space suits) with embroidered mission logos. In the upper floor of the spaceship each artist gave a brief insight into their own art practice-based research project, ranging from painting and photography to sculpture and installation. Furthermore, the underground belly of the spaceship contained an observatory (coin operated), which allowed to peek into the daily training activities taking place on the spaceship.
Overall, the exhibition was a great accomplishment in experience design and visual communication. In a funny way, it expressed the uncertain future ahead of these artists as they depart on their own journey with art.
