Very gentle colorful drawings that flock together at a distance to create large cloud-like shapes. Looking at the drawings from a close distance, one can recognize thousands of calligraphy-like stokes. While the gallery release stresses the universality of the motives that can be understood as referring to abstract themes like “transparency and opacity, presence and absence, materiality and intangibility, and” – surprise surprise – “lightness and darkness” (from press release), one can definitely also trace back the inspiration to Haoushiary’s motherland of Iran and the elaborate geometrical motives which are non-mimetic yet highly decorative.
