Lumenvisum is located within the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) and it primarily specializes in photography exhibitions. Tamas Walizcky’s exhibition was special in the sense that photographs were not the artistic output, but simply a material, which was further processed into the form of a comprehensive 3D model of the environment photographed. The subject matter selected for this 3D modelling exercise has been a very common old house is Tai O village on Lantau Island. Moving around the virtual house representation by touching the smooth tracking ball did not really give me the same feeling as walking inside of the house. No matter how accurate, the virtual representation felt detached like a ghost image, a double image of a place which actually still exists but which will maybe soon disappear and be replaced by a seaside resort hotel or shopping mall. Then one day, in a dead end corridor of the shopping mall that no retailer wants to rent, a small Tai O heritage center will be opened to fill up the empty space, and that will be the right place for this installation.
