An Italian artist like Pino Pinelli, now in his 70’s, has lived through a lot. The press release mentioned a “deep influence by the Zero Group” but he was not part of them. The body of work seems to revolve around monochrome “paintings” that change their external shape over time.
In the exhibition, all the presented works looked slightly similar, although of different colors, shapes and sizes: All were anamorphous blobs, covered by a soft-looking artificial textile layer. It made me most of all think of one-piece plastic designer furniture or the velvety interiors of boxes used to store jewelry. It must be a nightmare to maintain these works once the greasy Hong Kong/China dust sets upon them, unless they are machine-washable.
